Gifts of a moment
This series of paintings came about from looking for joy in places that others may see as being mundane or having negative aspects, such as a rainy day. Even when I have been walking my dog through the sodden, muddy fields in the pouring rain and freezing wind I still look for beauty and things that light me up inside. I notice the delightful shape of the puddles, the joyous patterns on the water and the flowing lines created by the rain filling up the tracks left from previous walkers. I then replicate that same joyfulness when painting, by using a variety of textured papers, objects and stencils imprinted into wet paint, that elicit an ‘‘oooo’ of delight at the marks and patterns that have been created serendipitously. A limited colour palette was used in this series with an aim to create a warm calm feeling of positivity.

I am always awed by the unobtrusive beauty of nature that can be passed by unseen by many. It may be seen in a peaceful sky or in the reflections from flooded fields or even in the shapes created by the rain. In this piece I have used a limited colour palette of alizarin crimson, dusky pinks, rusty ochres and soft greens to recreate the warm glow of joyousness that I felt. The landscape is made from layers of thin and opaque paint, with beautiful patterns and surface textures that can be reminiscent of another place entirely.
I have hand painted the frame in grey with a touch of phthalo blue that sets off the painting beautifully as in the pictures.
UV varnished with a cold wax buffed finish
