About me

“All of what I choose to create is what positively moves me”

All that I create is an expression of what positively moves me. I draw inspiration from the beauty of nature and the joy it stirs within me.

When I step outside, I notice the subtle details in the lines, shapes, and colors of nature that evoke delight.

When I paint, I follow that same excitement, a curious exploration with my medium, where my process becomes a journey of discovery.

My approach to is intuitive. I allow the paint to guide me, responding to the colors and marks that emerge, embracing the surprises that arise from the medium itself. I delight in the patterns that form as I imprint objects and stencils into wet paint, as they bring an organic and unpredictable flow to my work.

The act of creation is as meaningful as the finished piece, as it embodies the relationship between what I observe in nature and my emotional response to the process, with both influencing each other until I’m content with the final painting.

My goal is to evoke a sense of serenity and ease for the viewer.

I want my paintings to create a space that invites calm, allowing one to rest, reflect, and reset.

Through my work, I aim to offer framed sanctuaries for the soul,

a visual haven,

a gift of gratitude for this beautiful world we are privileged to experience.

Biography

“The paintings that I make are based upon the feelings evoked from being within the natural landscape that range from awe to a meditative calm.

Semi abstract landscape artist, Lisa Derrick, grew up in a small village in west Sussex, where she enjoyed the freedom of playing outside and exploring the countryside. Her love of painting began at an early age, even though none of her family were creative. As she grew older Lisa was often seen making sketches of people on her train journeys and even in the pub that her parents moved to and ran when she was a teenager.

In 1994 Lisa graduated from Nottingham Trent polytechnic with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. She successfully sold 3 pieces from her degree show to private collectors in London.

After studying, Lisa's career took a slight detour to become a teacher, and it wasn't until she moved to Scotland in 2007 that her art once again became a priority. She now paints from her studio at home and teaches part time.

Lisa’s work is continually inspired by the landscape around her and her paintings can be a mix of representational and abstracted forms, sometimes creating a mere suggestion of a landscape through colour, shapes and patterns.

Lisa has worked with a range of mediums - oil paint, cold wax, as well as paper and fabric collage, however she has been exploring acrylic in more depth in the more recent years. Her paintings can capture feelings of pure joy as well as a calm serenity, using a harmonized and complimentary colour palette; whilst the intricate patterns, marks and textures revealed in the multiple layers entice you to look more deeply and take a moment to stop and pause in our fast-paced world.
