About me
“All of what I choose to create is what positively moves me”
My art is intrinsically linked to being amongst nature, inspired not only by what I see but predominately how I feel. My paintings are a response to the positive impact that nature has on me.
When I am outside, I become curious of what catches my attention in the landscape around me, noticing what brings me joy.
I then take the same approach when making my art. I apply the paint intuitively with a variety of tools, noticing and responding to which colours and marks sing to me. I delight in the patterns left by imprinting a variety of objects and stencils into wet paint and follow the excitement from a curious exploration with paint that my process gives me.
These paintings may still be interpreted as landscapes due to some recognizable shapes that anchor the viewer to a particular place, but ultimately, I am enjoying the process of making the paintings without knowing what the ultimate outcome will look like.
I like to work in a series, having multiple pieces on the go at one time. Ultimately, they will differ from each other but are unified by either the same colour palette, medium, feeling or design.
All of what I choose to create is an expression of what positively moves me, from what I have seen in nature as well as in the actual process of creating.
My goal is to evoke the same emotional response for the viewer who has a piece of my art in their home.
I want my paintings to give you the same feelings of joy, to make you feel uplifted and heartened.
To give you a warm glow of happiness each time you pass it by.
But I also want my paintings to bring ease and fill you with a sense of serenity, creating a space to rest and reset.
I want to create framed sanctuaries for the soul.
Havens of peace.
Gifts of gratitude for this beautiful world.
Biography
“The paintings that I make are based upon the feelings evoked from being within the natural landscape that range from awe to a meditative calm.”
Semi abstract landscape artist, Lisa Derrick, grew up in a small village in west Sussex, where she enjoyed the freedom of playing outside and exploring the countryside. Her love of painting began at an early age, even though none of her family were creative. As she grew older Lisa was often seen making sketches of people on her train journeys and even in the pub that her parents moved to and ran when she was a teenager.
In 1994 Lisa graduated from Nottingham Trent polytechnic with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. She successfully sold 3 pieces from her degree show to private collectors in London.
After studying, Lisa's career took a slight detour to become a teacher, and it wasn't until she moved to Scotland in 2007 that her art once again became a priority. She now paints from her studio at home and teaches part time.
Lisa’s work is continually inspired by the landscape around her and her paintings can be a mix of representational and abstracted forms, sometimes creating a mere suggestion of a landscape through colour, shapes and patterns.

Lisa has worked with a range of mediums - oil paint, cold wax, as well as paper and fabric collage, however she has been exploring acrylic in more depth in the more recent years. Her paintings can capture feelings of pure joy as well as a calm serenity, using a harmonized and complimentary colour palette; whilst the intricate patterns, marks and textures revealed in the multiple layers entice you to look more deeply and take a moment to stop and pause in our fast-paced world.
